Montera Academy of Academic Exploration treated their student body to a Kick-Off Assembly in anticipation of the upcoming STAR Test. Every student was given a colorful pom-pom to use as they sang the school song and participated in a creative chant that was written by the Student Council. Montera Principal, Mr. Bruce Lauria, pledged that he would do something special at an upcoming assembly after testing if all students gave a 100% effort on the state test. In the past, Mr. Lauria kissed a goat, rode a razor scooter around the campus while dressed up as Dr. Testwell, a mad scientist, and has given students the opportunity to throw pie in his face. This year, the students were all given a Principal’s Pledge form to come up with their own creative idea for the principal to showcase after testing has been completed. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. | | |

The students at Montera love to read! They have successfully read over 30 million words and they keep reading everyday. To celebrate this milestone we will be having a Family Picnic on January 31, 2013. We hope to see you there! |

We at Montera are showing our pledge to being DRUG FREE this week with a few fun activities:
Monday, October 29th: Hats off to being drug free! WEAR A HAT.
Tuesday, October 30th: Team up against drugs! Wear team/sport apparel.
Wednesday, October 31st: Use your head, don’t use drugs! WEAR YOUR RED RIBBON BUTTON.
Thursday, November 1st: Follow your dreams, not drugs! WEAR PAJAMAS.
Friday, November 2nd: Celebrate being drug free! Wear SOMEthing red

The discipline committee would like to let you know about something new! We've been working hard to organize a special event for the students who have not received any behavior tickets during 1st trimester.
We will be hosting a Minute to Win It assembly! Maybe you've watched the show on TV before? Students will be racing to compete wacky challenges in one minute using household items. For example, ever tried to move a cookie from your forehead to your mouth using only the muscles in your face? (No hands!) That's just one game we'll be doing. There lots more that we have planned using noodles, cups, balloons, and more.
Remember, only the students who have not received any behavior tickets will be invited. Stay tuned to find out more! |

Yesterday Montera's Student Council held our first schoolwide pep rally. All the students learned a new cheer and learned about being trustworthy. We also learned about Nerd Day. |

The deadline for The Piece of Cake fundraiser has been extended to Monday, September 3, 2012. Help raise money for our school by selling delicious treats. Remember boys and girls to turn in your slips to earn Angry Bird pens. |
