Berlyn students enjoyed a fun day of running and walking at their annual Walk-a-Thon on Thursday October 30. Every student and most of the staff walked or ran laps during their 50 minute P.E. period. Laps were tallied on label stickers that the students wore. At the end of the period, students were treated to water and pretzel snacks before they returned to their classrooms. At the end of the school day, each student received a participation certificate that stated how many laps he or she had completed.

Family and friends came to watch and cheer. Bubbles were seen floating through the air and music was playing. Balloon towers marked the beginning and ending of each lap, and volunteers were on hand to mist all walkers and runners.

This Walk-a-Thon was a fundraiser for Berlyn, and staff had set a goal of raising $5,000 for field trips. Students were told that we could have a special BMX assembly if we met our goal, and they were able to raise over $6,000, far exceeding our original goal! We will be enjoying our assembly in December.

Since we exceeded our goal as a school, administrators created a new goal and let students vote on which special activity they would like to have. The goal was met, and the votes have been counted: we will soon be watching randomly-selected students throwing pies at Mrs. Hobbs, Principal and Mrs. Bartosh, Elementary Administrator. What a great ending to an awesome event!
