Title
Vista Grande Students Compete in School-Wide Spelling Bee
Body
“stratosphere…s-t-r-a-t-o-s-p-h-e-r-e…stratosphere” sighed Nicholas Sin as he spelled the final winning word in Vista Grande’s 3rd Annual Spelling Bee held at Oaks Middle School. On January 19th, 26 Vista Grande Elementary School students, grades 2-6, competed in the Spelling Bee. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Lourdes Patterson and all of the students studied and were excited to participate. Vista Grande’s staff, administration, families and students were very proud of how well each contestant prepared and performed during the bee.
After
26
exciting rounds, the judges named this year’s winners.
Nicholas Sin, a Vista Grande second grader took the title of Spelling Bee Champion as the first- place winner
. This was especially exciting for Nicholas because he was named the second place winner in Vista Grande’s 2nd Annual Spelling Bee in 2011 and he advances to the Regional Spelling Bee at Mount San Antonio College.
Melodye Nguyen, a fifth grader, was named the second-place winner
this year and remained in the competition the longest next to Nicholas. Taking third place was Leilani Fu’Qua, who did an amazing job and remained poised as she was eliminated in the 23rd round.
All of the contestants displayed excellent sportsmanship and were supportive of their classmates through the entire 26 rounds by remaining in the audience until the winners were announced! While the first and second place winners received trophies for their titles, all participants in the Spelling Bee received a free round of miniature golf at Boomers in Montclair. Vista Grande gives special thanks to Dr. Foley and Oaks Middle School for hosting our annual event.
