A sea of orange shirts gathered on the stage of Euclid Elementary School’s Multi-purpose Room. “Give me a T!” yelled Adrianna Medina, Human Resource Generalist from Home Depot. Forty or more volunteers from the RDC Distribution Center for Home Depot followed her commands, until TEAM DEPOT was spelled out. The cheer was ended by saying, “We Give Back!”
And give back they did. Not only did Home Depot volunteers work to help beautify Euclid’s campus on Saturday, May 14th, but they also donated $2,500.00 in supplies to make it happen. Major projects were creating a beautiful reading garden for Euclid students, planting the flower beds in the front of the school and in the courtyard, as well as several cleaning projects in the basement, classrooms, parking lot, and front office. They even helped to refurbish the chairs and floor in the 73 year old auditorium. “This project is just in time for our awards assemblies and promotion ceremonies that will be held here. What a wonderful gesture on Team Depot’s part!” said Rhonda Cleeland, Principal of Euclid School.
The Team Depot volunteers were joined by many members of the Euclid School community, including more than one hundred students and family members and approximately twenty five staff members who also came to beautify Euclid’s campus. Students from Kindergarten to 6th grade worked diligently, planting, painting, carrying and sweeping to make a difference at their school. Rodrigo Perez, fourth grader at Euclid Elementary, helped clean in the auditorium. “When I got on the stage and looked at the chairs, they were so much cleaner!” he said, beaming with the pride he felt for his school. Students were also allowed to pot their own plant and take it home. The supplies for the “Pot it – Take it” station were also donated by Home Depot.
Community partners are crucial to schools, especially in this economy. It was heartwarming to see community volunteers come together with the families and staff of Euclid Elementary School to make a difference. Thank you to Team Depot for making it all happen, and for bringing happiness and beauty into the lives of Euclid students.
